Ekwendeni Mission ‘video shorts’
Here is a growing set of short films on the work of the Ekwendeni Mission Station.
College of Nursing & Midwifery
Flemmings Nkhandwe, Principal, talks about how the Ekwendeni College of Nursing has expanded over the years and outlines his plans for the future. The current campus, within the hospital grounds, is no longer big enough and so improved facilities are being built at a new campus on the edge of the mission’s land in Ekwendeni. This new campus shares core facilities (such as a library) with the expanding College of Theology and College of Commerce. All these institutions are part of the CCAP’s University of Livingstonia.

The Carpentry and Joinery Workshop is part of the College of Lay Training at Ekwendeni. Students take a two-year course, after which they receive a basic carpentry tool box, then they go back to their communities with the skills and equipment to get employment or start a business. Robert Kumwenda takes you round the workshop.

Ekwendeni Hospital Nutrition and Resuscitation Unit (NRU)
The Nutrition and Resuscitation Unit (NRU) at Ekwendeni Hospital provides care for malnourished children in the area, and beyond. And local voluntary groups work to raise money (our featured one sells tasty fritters!) to buy food supplements for poor families and orphans. Sister Esther introduces NRU staff-member Mrs Mkandawire.

Ekwendeni Hospital operating theatres
There are two operating theatres at Ekwendeni Hospital, for major and minor procedures. While the hospital’s medical staff are able to to do minor procedures, more complex operations have to wait for visiting surgeons. There is a need for basic drugs and equipment.
