Our clinical visit to Malawi in May 2025 was very busy and involved lots of travelling, much of that hampered by roadworks and rainy weather. Our purpose was to catch up with the students we sponsor and the eye clinicians at the mission hospitals – and with the growing number of clinicians working in government hospitals we have made contact with in recent years.

Team members visited Chitipa on the northern border, and Likoma on the east side of Lake Malawi, and Lilongwe in central Malawi, and many other hospitals and clinics in between.
During these visits we met staff, learned of their plans and challenges, delivered items of equipment, worked with local technicians on repairing equipment, and discussed how The Raven Trust might be of help in the future.
We were also responding to requests from college and hospital staff to help explore the beginnings of binocular vision training in Malawi, and spent some time at the Malawi College of health Sciences and Mzuzu Central Hospital providing further information on practice in the UK and other countries, and doing Q&A’s and diagnosis demonstrations.
