We are now hosting a pilot series of six online seminars entitled “An Introduction to Orthoptics” led by Rowena McNamara MSc DBO(T). These are being made available to invited eye health clinicians in the northern region of Malawi.
The course of seminars, running from February to March 2025, is designed to help optical and medical eye health clinicians understand more about binocular vision and conditions such as squints, lazy eyes and double vision.
The first seminar on Friday 14 February dealt with the stages of visual development in children and how and when clinicians can effectively screen for visual acuity and binocular problems in children, and even in babies and toddlers.
Ms McNamara is a senior orthoptist, with a long career in orthoptic practice in the UK and is currently a visiting clinical tutor at City St George’s, University of London. She played central roles in establishing official orthoptic services in Sri Lanka and The Gambia.
